Hi my name is Joyin Chou and I graduated with a B.Sc. in Psychology before going on to pursue a Masters in Educational Research Methodology at the University of Oxford. I first started writing shortly after university when a friend asked me if I wanted to write a book about university experiences in the UK, with her. Not being in a great hurry to become part of the daily grind of the mill 9-5 workforce, I readily agreed. The main character of our book was a girl called Vivian who always had her head in the clouds. Her avid interest in coming to the UK to study was based on over romanticised notions of the UK which she had got from watching films like My Fair Lady and Harry Potter, not to mention her idolisation of Prince William and her obsession will sheep collectables. Since we had no preconceived notions of what we should or shouldn't do, we thought completely out of the box and generally had a great time writing the book. We were lucky enough to find a publishers who saw potential in our book, and I've been writing ever since.

Following that, I undertook a variety of editorial and journalistic positions in the publishing, and print and broadcast media. The work I was involved in ranged from producing a set of readers for 6-7 year-olds to being right at the center of the avian flu crisis where I was working in Asia as a reporter at that time.

Although I am a lady of Science and have received rigorous training in systematic research, there's a shadow side of me which identifies strongly with concepts like the butterfly effect, dopelgangers, the spirit world, karma, reincarnation and astrology as I feel that they give meaning and shape to what otherwise might be deemed as a random series of accidental events, which for me is an almost intolerable idea. Subsequently, I have read a vast amount of literature relating to these concepts and have my own personal database of friends' and family's horoscopes which I study in detail to further my knowledge in this area.
